What am I doing wrong with my CO2

Ok, I have 2 3l bottles filled with 3 cups sugar, 6 cups water, and a little less that 1/2 tsp of yeast. I activated the yeast according to the instructions on the packet and made sure that the water was the correct temp (108.) I have these two bottles connected to a gas separator with silicone airline tubing and then tubing is run from that into the intake of a fluval one plus internal filter.

This is my second try now with my mixture and I'm still not getting any bubbles.:wall: Someone else suggested after my first failed attempt that I may have rehydrated my yeast at the wrong temp so I bought a kitchen thermometer and made sure that it was ok. I'm not really sure what else to do.

I'm thinking pretty seriously of giving up this project and buying a few of the already mixed systems like this:

Should I put more than one in my 55g or would that be overkill? I realize that pressurized CO2 would be preferable in a tank this size but it's not financially feasible for me right now.

Sorry about the long rambling thread... I'm pretty discouraged at this point

you need to wait a day or so to get the bubbles going.... I think the true time is minimum 6 hours. When I first started, I had trouble with it too but al I did was blow into the tube a little to get the motion going... then it sorta matched up eventually.

Pressurized is not a requirement on a 55 gallon, I run the same setup you do with the same recipe on my 75 gallon and it's out of plant control. Hang on there, you'll get the nitch for it... just be patient.

When I made my yeast mixture I never had to wait more than 3 hours. Are you getting a good seal on all your connections? That's the only thing I can think of that would stop the gas from building up, other than dead yeast.

I'm about 99% on all of my seals, I drilled the holes smaller than necessary and jammed airline connectors into the holes. Everything seemed to fit really tightly. If I see no bubbles by the time I get home from work (about 11pm), what tube should i blow into?

I so hope that this works. I was really excited that everything came together so well and then no bubbles. :wall::wall::wall:. Story of my life
