hi not sure if this is the right area to post... i know pretty much nothing about fish, i bought a 1.5 gallon tank with a filter in it i have a betta and a sucker fish... idk the name of it, its the black kind u get at walmart. Any way i was hoping to get some info about beta fish and what they need to survive and maintanence of this tank. What temp should be, how often to change the water... and HOW to change the water, what to feed and anything else u can think of thanks!!http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh100/ashley22ny/P9210013-1.jpg

Since you haven't cycled your tank, you will need to perform daily 50 percent water changes until it is cycled. Once it is cycled, ide say at least 50 percent changes twice a week. The suckerfish you got, take him back. It is probably a common pleco and they get about 2 feet long. Get yourself a good test kit (I use API master test kit), but do NOT get a strip test kit. During waterchanges use a good dechlorinator and put in regular tapwater. Feed your betta 2x a day 2-3 pellets and the tank temp should be aroun 78ish. Make sure you leave space at the top of your tank as well b/c bettas are labyrinth fish and go to the surface to breath O2.

You could have a taller, larger plant. Bettas some times sit in them at night. Remember to scale it to the size of the small 1.5 gal tank though.

Its not as hard as it seems, just go to your Local Fish Store and get some trial sized free samples of water conditioner and put one in when you change with some tap water. Your Betta is living the high life compared to the ones trapped in a vase with a plant and barely every a water change. Just give it some fresh treated water every week and some betta pellets and it will be good to go.
