Well about 2 years ago now I decided to take my 30 gal community and turn it into a firemouth tank. I gathered up the inhabitants and brought them to the LFS for credit. Somehow I missed a little cherry barb. I didnt want to go all the way back to the LFS which is 30 min from me (I kind of live in the sticks) and I didnt want to leave him in that tank cause I thought he would be bullied by the juvinile firemouths. I thought the most humane thing to do would be to put him in my 90 gal with 2 medium sevrums, a large red hook silver dollar, a medium pink tail chalceaus(sp?), a large angel fish and several other fish figuring that he would make a good treat for one of them. Well needless to say I decided to put him in the tank and figured I would never see him again. That was 2 years in the middle of october some time and needless to say that little bugger is still alive and well just as happy as could be in my 90 gal. He has to be one of the biggest cherry barbs Ive seen now and gets along great with the rest of the large inhabitants even though some of them could heat a fish 3 times his size. Even with tons of places to hide he has now problem staying out in the open cause not one of my fish bother him. I just thought this was the wierdest thing.

That is strange. My grandfather had a tank with giant goldfish and feeder guppies. The guppies never got eaten. He later gave the tank to me and all the guppies got eaten.

I had a friend with a single oscar that she fed feeder goldfish... for some reason the oscar decided to spare one of the goldfish and the two became tank mates after the goldfish grew to big to eat. The strangest part (IMO) was that the tank had no hiding places to speak of, so the goldfish was clearly at the mercy of the oscar!
I have a single daino living with a jd and convict. I have never had a problem. This fish has been in the tank for about 7 months. Ive put in 5 rosey reds about the same size and they were gone the next morning. I thought the daino would be too. I guess hes just to fast. Tim

He was about 2.5" or so biggest one I ever saw real fat little guy. The Firemouths.....well I decided breeding wasnt for me I just like to enjoy my fish I have enought kids of my own to take care of....lol anyway they kept eating there fry? I dont know if they had a genetic problem? I fed the fry brine shrimp and fine crushed flake but they never made it past a quater inch and the pair would eat them so I turned the tank into a community for my son. Two Turquise Rainbows (I know probably two small a tank) and 5 neons.
