I'm doing a fishless cycle and I've got two elite 800 air pumps running. Well, there's seems to be some foam forming above one of my airstones, I'm not sure if it's from putting too much water conditioner in or from the ammonia. If the ammonia was bad, is my fish tank completely screwed for good?

By the way the type of ammonia I'm using is from ACE Hardware. I read somewhere there has been some succes with it, but I haven't seen a nitrite spike in the 3 days I"ve been doing the fishless cycle.

Check the ammonia bottle and make sure it's NOT *foaming* ammonia. You can also shake the bottle -- if it suds up like bubble bath, you have sudsing ammonia which includes a foaming agent that is not good for fish. When doing a fishless cycle, the ammonia you use should not have any sudsing agents, dyes, perfumes, or other additives.
