I'm currently in the process of a mini cycle with aquasoil. I added it after completing a fishless cycle (before adding fish), only to find out that it would cause an amonia spike and need to be cycled.

I've also read that many bottom dweller fish will dig in the aquasoil which will rile it up causing clouding and amonia spikes or plant disruption?

I was planning to get a group of cory cats or maybe some loaches.

Will these work ok with the aquasoil? or are there some other choices that I haven't thought of?

They will be with gouramis, tetras, maybe guppies, snails (no loaches with snails though right?), rams, etc.

Thanks!

Loaches and Cories are fine with AS.

We are over a month now with an empty tank...getting itchy for those fish. :D

You can keep kuhli loaches with snails with no worries, just stay away from botias.

I say cory cats of any kind will be perfect tenants in your tank. I myself have an affinity for the pygmy cories. I have c. pygmaeus, which is more of a mid-water species, and watching a school of 12 of these little guys is awesome! They twitch their little barbels and float to each plant, looking like little hummingbirds! Sorry for the tangent...:o

Oh they sound so cute! Do they eat the algae from the plants?

No, they don't eat algae, but they may eat the the tiny organisms living amongst algae. They will scavenge the bottom every once in a while to look for food, so you can feed them with sinking pellets and wafers like you would with larger corydoras. They only grow to an inch in size compared to other cories that grow to 2 inches +, so you can have more pygmy cories in your tank!

But it was such a nice little tangent ... I love cories too. I could watch them for hours! I like the little cories, the big cories and even the cories that aren't really cories but just look like cories. I think cories are my favorite kind of fish.

And they would do well in a planted tank with aquasol. They'd probably love it.

When I truly first started out in this hobby, my list of favorite fish was completely different from it is now. Cories (esp. the pygmy variety) definitely rank high on my current favorites list, whereas when I first began researching fish for my first tank, I thought cories were boring and unappealing!
