View Full Version : SEC Bias

This is a whine, whine, whine post.

The Tide has not had a team in years, finally won one big game and the Horns are ranked fifth.

Is something wrong with this picture.

Please also note that the hoopla by the national sportscasters over four of the Big Twelve teams being in the Top Ten is nowhere near the overwhelming decibel level before the vaunted SEC teams began biting the dust.

BTW and just in case anyone is wondering the small conference known as the Big Twelve South (six teams) holds three of the top ten positions.

TR

BTW again: when the Horns bite the dust in the Cotton Bowl on OU weekend this thread will self destruct!

The BCS is a flawed system and should be replaced by a true playoff system based on... WINS AND LOSSES (I know this is a radical idea), not based on how someone feels about them on a particular day. Go Dawgs!!!

I came in to vote for the ouster of SEC Chairman Chris Cox.

We're talking something really controversial here!

When 8 knocks off 3 and 1 & 4 both manage to lose, 8 is going to move a lot.. I'm a Vol fan, hate Bama, hate the Gators, hate LSU, but by golly, they belong where they are because they are dominant forces.. People say "the SEC ain't all that" all day long.. blah blah blah.. In the end, when your schedule includes 5-6 teams that'll be in and out of the top 10 all season long, and you still have a zero in your loss column, then you can say someone is a great team.. Maybe you are forgetting that Clemson was #9 when Bama ripped em a new one? Knock of #9, then #3.. I'm sorry, but the only thing wrong with the current rankings is that Bama should be #1 over Oklahoma.. Oklahoma has 1 win against a ranked opponent this season, and that was #24 TCU.. I won't say they're not worthy of a high ranking, they look great, but they don't have the games to warrant #1 yet, nor will they have them all season with that schedule.. Should be LSU and Bama, 1 and 2, because they're the only 2 teams in the top 4 that have wins over anyone in the top 10.. Bama has 2, LSU has 1.. Missouri has none, Oklhoma has none..

Corax, I am with you. I would loudly protest any new ranking system based solely on wins and losses. Strength of schedule is the absolute best way to really rank teams. I personally feel it should be LSU, Bama, Okla right now, but we will find out in a few short weeks where Bama and LSU really fall. I can't wait to see that game!

Roll Tide!

The SEC simply beats up on each other. As the last two national Championships have proven. SEC=College football at its finest! Their are more good teams and elite coaches in the SEC than any other conference, BY FAR! Heck, Vanderbilt is ranked and Kentucky is undefeated!

...and UT would fall at about #100.. sad, sad time to be a Vol fan.. I'm predicting 3-7 season, which is fine by me cuz it moves Fulmer a little closer to retirement. The SEC isn't the only good conference, but I think it is the strongest top to bottom..

Apparently we were not watching the same Rose Bowl the night of January 4th, 2006 when the vaunted ThreePeat team bit the dust with 4th and 4 from the 8 with 26 seconds left in the game.

BTW and once again after all of my bravado in this thread:
this thread will self destruct if the Horns bite the dust in the Cotton Bowl Stadium two weeks from last Saturday.

once again you Horns fans think everything "UT" is talking about you.. UT = Tennessee.. Always has, always will..

GO VOLS!

but umm, I think Colt is gonna run wild on those Sooners, so you should be in fine shape come January..

I will pay the shipping on whatever it is that you have been imbibing or inhaling.

BTW:

After the 2005 Rose Bowl with Michigan and the 2005 early fall game with Ohio State we determined that the moniker of the conference in which these schools participate should be the "Medium Ten".

Also after the Cotton Bowl yall were in I still cannot discuss the Vol's in a meeting when an Aggie is present.

SEC is by far the best. Texas and Oklahoma would also be in the upper echelon of the SEC if they were in it, but that is it for now out of the Big 12. In the SEC you have LSU, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia. A 1 loss team out of the SEC should automatically be in the BCS championship game. We have seen what happens when a 1 or 2 loss SEC team does in the BCS championship...they win.

One more rule, no more Ohio State in the Championship game until they stop calling themselves "The" Ohio State University. You don't deserve "The".

Folks:

Did anyone see ESPN Game Day Saturday morning (I did not but other folks did)?

Did anyone notice the lack of bias by the sportscasters?

I was too busy swilling beer and shoveling nachos down my throat in anticipation of the OU/tex kickoff that i didn't pay attention, sorry. LOL

The upside down horns are very humorous but as the game progressed I noted that their density (in the red area on my left) decreased significantly during the game (also that none were evident during the last four minutes of the game as the stream of red was moving up the isles to the exits at the Cotton Bowl).

I also noted that the Boomer Sooner which was unmerciful in the bar on Friday night was absent on Saturday night.

TR

BTW: The OU fans at the hotel (we had a h...l of a good time together at the bar on Friday night) and the ones on my right at the game were 1st class folks.

LOL... i will admit we lost to a better team that day. after reynolds got hurt, it all fell apart.. and what was up with the officials? there were so many bad calls on both sides, it got hard to keep track.. even the sportscasters were making fun of their idiocy by the end of the game.

all in all, a pretty good game that wasnt one-sided. lots of bad calls..

oh, and the wrong team won. ;) but thats ok.. OSU won later. heh

OSU won later. heh
And I enjoyed every minute of it!

Is it not odd that the hands down favorite for the Heisman bit the dust Saturday night up in the land of the Tigers and a heretofore unhearlded but very good quarterback who was also on the same field that night is now on the Heisman list?:thm: :thm:

TR

BTW: I have some very good clients from OK City who are big OSU folks (got the booths and all the condiments at Pickens Stadium) will be watching the game with us from the 1st row at the new North End Club at Memorial Stadium in Austin.

BTW: BTW: I am somewhat disapointed here as the Sooners are still #1 on the OSU "hit list" and not the Horns.:headbang2::lol: :headbang2:
