Ten months ago I started salt water. I have a koi pond, and I did fresh water for years, but salt water was entirely new territory.
So I came here and read and read and read and learned patience and finally I have some nice pictures to share. I do have my eyes on a 220 gallon tank..:) Next year..:)
So my tank is 55 gallons, reef and salt water fish about 70 pounds of live rock, I added a refugium which actually sits beside the tank, don't ask me, my husband did all the hole drilling plumbing, but it works. my parameters are always on the button. I also use rocks in my filter, I slowly got rid of the blue bio balls, and I faithfully do weekly water changes!
I think it is paying off, I actually took some corals BACK to my LFS, cause well, they multiple pretty fast eh???
So a few pictures

Beautiflul tank...looks like your sandsifting start has quite a few asternia tankmates. Great selection on the fish and corals.

HI
thats an oyster he was unplanned but the neighbors basically killed all their fish /corals (stupid people i wonder how they would feel if I stuck them in a tank full of water and took away their air!) and they were just going to toss him in the garbage...so I took him. We call him Spike. He seems to do ok, opens up when the daylights go off. I target feed him.
Moe the clown seems to like hosting in Pinky our Brain, He has an anemone (named Curly) and uses Him when the lights go out, but during the day, its the brain that Moe plays in.
The sandsifter rarely comes out, he stays in the sand so when He was on the glass I had to quickly grab the picture. And yes lots of asternia. I've been watching to ensure they are not hurting my corals, all seems well so I just leave the tank alone.
I only have a few fish and nothing big but everything is doing so well! I test my water once a week and do water changes once a week. I only utilize one sponge (the one shown in the picture) below the tank its all live rock.
The refugium is kinda interesting for my husband didn't want it stuck beneath the tank, so its sits beside the main one. He did all the drilling and plumbing and well I'm not sure how it works, but it does! People look at it also, the Macro Algae (Reefscape I can remember asking you what Macro Algae was 10 months ago!) and they look to see if anythng is in that tank and see pods ect. I trim the refugium when it starts to get over grown.
Next year I hope to acquire a 200 gallon tank. My husband and I are lookng at one now. We just remodelled our kitchen, new appliances, counter tops ect, soooooooo we have to wait!
thanks
and be well..:)
