Hi guys, I am fairly new to the aquarium thing. We started with a 30g and got hooked. We gave that tank to my mom and now have a 90g up and running. We just purchased a 50g and are taking our time to set that one up better with substrates before we move further with it.

I have learned a ton from this site already just by reading post's and replys....

I would like to make my tank more lush with the plants we have and would like to reproduce? or clone? the ones we have. I never wrote down what types of plants they are but will include some pictures. I know i have java moss, and i think there are 2 dif kinds of anubias? well let me know any advice and tips to makng this a more lush tank.

I am on a budget now and we have a gravel substrate, we put in flourish root tabs, we use liquid supplements and a DIY CO2 with 2 - 2 liters mixing 2 cups sugar 1 tsp yeast 1/4 teaspoon baking powder. Trying to clone plants to save money for new ones. Right now we have about 1wpg but am anxously awaiting my 4x55w kits from AHSupply

Thanks in advance

Is that an aerator in the left side of tank, if so that will diminish any gains from DIY CO2. And another thing about your lighting upgrade, I wouldnt run all 4 bulbs, maybe 2 with DIY CO2 or go pressurized with 4bulbs, thats a crazy amount of light for a 50gal.

And for cheap plants, your best bet is buying stem plants, they grow fast and through cuttings reproduce really quickly plus with their faster growth they are betting at controlling algae as well. And again look through the classified section on this forum ther are quite a bit of people selling plants, which are almost always better than a chain or a e-retailer.

It is a 90g tank that the 4x55w setup will be going into the pics are of the 90g tank......The 55g not set up at all, currently designing and building stand. then substrates, then lighting then water :)

Do a smaller substrate than this one. It will be easier to keep your plants down. A lot of people use ecocomplete for substrate but I just use regular natural looking substrate from my lfs.

If you want ID of your plants, it might be easiest if you got individual pics of the plants you want id'd. Looks like a good start :)

thank you for the help i will take individual pics of plants i dont know soon..... can i take clippings of the big leafed plants and replant them, do i need to band them together? how do i make more plants from the ones i have?

It's your choice whether to band them or not but I will tell you they stay planted a lot easier if they are banded. My fish like to uproot stuff but if it's heavy they can't. good luck :)

Def chuck the bubbles, as previously stated they will negate some of the CO2 you are adding. Also, when your ferts run out buy dry ferts instead. Check out rexgrigg.com for a chart of how much seachem costs to dose vs dry ferts. I have just started switching over my ferts myself. 1lb of potassium nitrate will last my two tanks practically forever whereas a 250ml bottle from Seachem would have cost more(+ shipping) and lasted me a few months.
