This little dude, and his friend, are the most lively enjoyable species in my tank. I have no idea what it is though. Anyone have an idea?

both of them are very happy, they eat a lot and play in the bubbles and slither through the taller plants and are ALWAYS together. Its pretty neat. I will soon be getting a larger tank with smaller substrate so they can dig more. Thanks for the help! Glad to identify it.

Yup. "Weather" or "dojo" loach - both names are appropriate. I have 3 and will likely add more next time I find some. They are some of my favorites as well. They like their water on the colder side - try to keep not to push them above the mid-seventies. They are known for getting crazy as the weather changes (thus "weather loach" so make sure your tank is tighly covered - I've heard of them jumping out and wiggling up the HOB flow. I've had mine spawn a few times recently - but all the eggs (to my knowledge) are chow to the rest of the tank. They can be sexed by the shape of their fins - look at the pectoral fins - if the spine is longer than the rest of the fin and therefore the fin appears triangular, it is a male, if the spine is slightly shorter and the fin appears roundish, it is a female.

If they get comfortable with you they may even eat from your hand - frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms are a favorite of my trio - if I hold the frozen cube loosly in my hand by the substrate - "Joe Snake-eye" will wuffle his barbley nose on my hand and arm and eat from my hand. Very sweet.

Anyway, greetings from Joe Snake Eye, Bo Duck, and Slim Shady!

Very cute loach! I wish we could have them, they're illegal in a few states. I have seen them for sale here a time or 2 but none so healthy looking as yours, nice.
