What is neon tetra disease? How do I treat it if one of my tetras has it?
One of the neon tetra's tail is getting a dull pink in color almost "moldy" looking. The fish acts Ok , just looks funny.

It is a parasite that can live through most medications and the infected fish should be removed from the tank.

I listed a few links on the previous thread.

At the store we have found that Ampicillin works the best for curing the dreaded Neon Tetra disease. In fact anytime we receive a new shipment of either neons or cardinals they are quarentined and treated right away for three days.

Really cuts our losses down.

Here in Quebec you need a doctors prescription to get it but not in most other Canadian provinces. It is made by the Apotex Drug Company.
From my understanding there are many online places in the states that you can order it from with no problems.

You may even want to try a local drug store. Your state may not require anything to be able to buy it.

There is information on Pleistophora and other sporideans here: http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/health/othprotist.shtml
If ampicillin is effective against sporideans, that would be a breakthrough we'll all be hearing about!
