Shopping while at work is always bad for my wallet. :nono: I was perusing ebay today and found an FX5 for $210. I watched it for a while and then decided to bid. Got it! Anyway, the seller says that it's in new/unused condition. It comes with carbon and polishing pads.

I will be using this filter in my 125 oscar, pleco, pictus tank in conjunction with an AC110. Do I need to get anything to go with it or am I all set with the carbon and polishing pad that it comes with?

I have bought 5 of them off ebay from the guy who sells them for 199.00 with free shipping mine came new and with all the supplies to get it up and running yours should also if it is new and not opened. I love mine I hope you do also. Just dont get in a rush and follow the set up instructions and you will have no problems.

should be okay, but I suggest some biological media... polishing pads should do okay but they clog :(

I don't use carbon in any tank at all any more. (see the article on carbon in my blog for more information). It simply takes out too much good stuff and with adequate water changes is almost always not necessary.

The polishing pads are over-priced. I just get polyester pillow stuffing from Wal-Mart. A year's supply is about $6. Cram it in tight in the center of the top tray and you are set for fine mechanica/polishing.

The center of the other two trays I fill with Biomax, the biological media.

This is the setup I have found to be best after about nine years of using Fluvals and trying MANY different medias and setups.
