I have a volume of 1008 sq. inches how many gallons is that?

You mean cubic inches? (length X width X height) One U.S. gal = 231 cubic inches.
1008/231 = 4.36 gal

Ok I really have my measurements screwed up then because what I am measuring is 7ft. X 3ft. X 4ft. and I think after redoing the caluations is 145,152 cubic inches thanks for the help I never was good at math.

Almost fool-proof... just measure your tank in inches and plug the numbers in =)

A good reference when you cant go online.
LxWxH divided (/) by 231.
Can some Moderator bookmark this? That is honestly the 5th time I've posted that formula.

here's a really nice calculator.
Rocketman, I understand your frustration (and I'd be even more frustrated if I were a geometry teacher in a public school).
One suggestion. When you present a formula like this one you shall not forget to mention units of measure. Simply because your formula is only true for L, W, and H measured in inches, and the result will be in US gallons. And only for a tank with all right angles and flat glass. :)

I have a HEX calculator here
Hex Tank Calculator (http://www.aquariumadvice.com/calcs2.php?type=hex)
If I can get a mathmatical equasion for the capacity of a flat back hex I would like to write a calculator for that aswell.
If the base/opening of the tank is a regular hexagon, and
S=length of each side (units)
W=distance between any opposite walls (units)
H= height of the tank (units)
V=volume of the tank (cubic units)
then you can choose any of those two formulas:
V=3 * [sq. root of 3] * S^2 * H / 2
or
V=[sq. root of 3] * W^2 * H / 2
Naturally, if you measure the S, W, and H in inches and want to know V in gallons, you have to divide the result by 231.
P.S. Middle school geometry. 30 years ago. The school was outside of the US, so you may want to check the quality of education by re-checking the formulas. :D

HEY XERXESSM I will trade you my BLUEPRINT of this monster tank for a planted 30 gal anyday. Please remember I am trying to plan for a tank that is several years away. Does anyone know where I can get prices on this huge custom built tank. I am going to post the blueprint in a day or two so everyone can see what I am trying to do.

glass-
inter-america (whose actually in canada) i dont know of a website, but ask around, someone should know.
www.glasscages.com they can and do make custom glass tanks
www.oceanicsystems.com also makes custom tanks
with glass tanks you want to use starphire glass, it costs more but is optically as clear as acrylic, and as hard as glass (no scratches)
acrylic-
www.tenecor.com the most expensive, but generally regarded as the best
http://www.aquariumsbythesea.com/
www.clarityplus.com
there are quite a few more, but its too late for me to think of them off the top of my head.
