:nilly:I found some sites that do not have outrageous prices for LED lighting. I think LED is the next big thing in lighting, especially for aquarium use. They are international sites, but still there are some pretty good prices. They would work for almost any type of application. They are not advertised for aquarium use, but I am sure you could adapt them. :grinyes:

*sigh* worst sites ever... I'm sorry to say.... use this one
http://www.sureelectronics.net (http://www.sureelectronics.com)

search for LEDs, or I guess you can go to the electronics section and choose LEDs... any way... you're fine...

the only problem is that you have to make your own PSU... but that's so easy to do once you have the basic idea of electronics... I would be glad to design one for you, but sadly(not that sadly :FIREdevil:)... I'm too lazy

With LED lighting for aquariums Wako, You really need to DIY it or go the PFO Solaris or AI route. Those little 5mm LEDs won't light a tank very well unless you want to hand solder several hundred of them. High Power LEDs is where its at.

I hand soldered mine :) so many little lights... I may be afraid of LEDs now...

Hi Water_Wako, I've done quite a bit of research on LEDs, I have to agree with Cory Keeper. If you do want to use LEDs, then high power is the way to go.

This my current project (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=158749) that I'm working on.

Wire-wrap is another alternative to soldering, all you need is the perfboard and the little hand tool for wire wrapping.

Then would 1008 LEDs in red (650-660nm) and blue (465-470nm) colours and be enough for a FW planted tank if for every 168 LEDs was 13W ?

Yes I have looked at it. But You could get 1008 LEDs meant for growing. It is the same, but more.

there is no way that picture shows 1K individual LEDs, There is no way something that small has 1000 LEDs, I've seen 1000 LEDs, it was spread over a 25g tank, lol.
