Don't remove the bulb. These plants go through a period of dormancy every year, and the bulb holds the nutrients to sustain the plant through it.
Don't completely bury it either.
Are they Aponogetons?

Nooooo, that would be like cutting off the head of your pet because he seems alive anyway :)

Thanks for the replies and the links.I have identified them as Nymphaea sp..A lily type they are growing fine and I will just leave them alone.I was just wondering if at some point will the main stem coming from the bulb disconnect from the actual plant and go dormant. The plants have their own roots right now.I will look into these pages tonight! Thanks rockhead44
