Newbie who purchased 2 jewel chichlids, and after taking a closer look at home, it apears that one of them has very little dorsal fin - a small fin in the back or "soft" part of the dorsal. I am wondering if the fish is damaged or ? There seems to be no trace of dorsal along the top, or any ragged area like it had been nipped by other fish. I first thought the fish had just flattened it's dorsal. Then I thought(briefly) that what is there is actually an adipose? fin? So, my question - is this natural (and O.K.), or is the fish damaged or deformed? Thanks for replies!

Other jewel has normal dorsal that pretty much runs the length of it's back.

It was probably bitten off by something, it should grow back pretty fast. just take care of him like you would normally. One of my jewel pair (female one i think) had its fins shreded and they grew back perfectly.
