Is there any plant or type of plants that do not do well in sand substrate?

I can't see why any plants won't do well in sand unless the sand simply compact thus choking the plant roots and allowing anaerobic bacteria to establish in those dead areas.

I'm having a hard time getting any of my plants to grow well in sand, whereas they were growing fine in florite. I'm kicking myself for changing over, and I've started changing 1 tank back.

My vals love my sand...

The only thing I would think that would not do well in sand is cyanobacteria or moss ^^
