I have one female blue ram in my 75gallon, she is peaceful towards most the other fish, except for the 2 apistos.
In my experience with this particular fish, she is very hardy. This spring I took the heater out because our light bill was very high, the tank dropped to around 72F and she seemed fine with that. I think she is pretty much indifferent to the pH and hardness, but you should probably try to keep the pH between 6 and 8 and the hardness below 11 for the gH.
I would also recommend live plants and to keep a pair (male/female).

umm about the clowns , i keep them , but if you want them for the 30 they willg et to big, try yoyo loaches , they look alot alike and act the same but stay i think around 4 inches, a clown can get as big as17 but 12-14 seems to be the normal

I think for one ram, the minimum is 5 gallons, for a pair, the minimum is 10gallons.
take a look at the apistogramma fish also if your interested in dwarf cichlids. a huge family with tons of different colors and shapes. a 5 is minimum for a pair solo and a 30 will house a pair and a small community. my apistos are never aggressive to any fish other than each other. the male is always chasing one of the females around. clown loaches will get much to big for a 30. you need around a 75 for them to grow and still feel comfortable. yo-yos are a good option like was mentioned. or zippers. im sure theres quite a few loaches that you could house in the 30 with a pair of rams heres a couple links
