I got my Oscar a few days ago and I was wondering how often and how much I should feed him per day. Since Oscars are pigs I need some help gauging just how much he needs to avoid overfeeding him.

It's almost impossible to over feed and oscar. Feed it what you feel comfortable feeding, but keep in mind that it does require a fair amount of food. I feed my oscar 3 times a day, but some people feed theirs once or twice. Give it a nice variety too.

I found with my oscars that feeding live food was best option and they will eat when they are hungry but it does become farly expenseive if u can't find a local creek or **** to catch them from

I have a routine where on Fridays, we go to the local bait & tackle for the best rib dinners I've ever tasted  . I know, I know, WHAT? Seriously, our office goes for ribs, and while I'm there, I get some crickets, earthworms, or rosy reds. I know my babies could do just fine with a variety of pellet foods and vegetables, but there is nothing like live food for an oscar! They really perk up when occasionally fed live foods. The pellets I use are Omega One cichlid pellets. They go nuts for these also. I also have to give my crazy dog these pellets when I feed the oscars. She thinks they're treats!

My Oscar has had two defective platys so far. They were the offspring of my dad's original platys. I also feed him floating pellets and some sinking ones. The sinking ones are mostly for the African Cichlid I've got in there too. Had to take the African Cichlid or else the previous owners would have flushed him down the toilet:( They seem to be getting along alright.
