I think it is a different species of MTS?

That's a dead shell.

That's kinda cool looking. I recently found a MTS in my tank that doesn't look like the others. The shell is much more smooth than "regular" MTS.

Possibly calcium deficiency, or some other nutrient? Not too sure on that,

but like someone said, it could just be a different color/texture?

What does MTS stand for?

It needs to be in the acronym thread. :)

My vote would be for differnet species of Mts. That dark of an apperance isn't normal for the red ribbon mts that are also present in the picture. There even appears to be a texture to the shell. If I could see the opening I could make a better guess on whether or not it is a quilted melania.

I currently have 3 differnet species of MTS. Looking for more.

You can actually feel the dots. Trust me when I say no living snail looks like that in any of my tanks, only two have come up looking like that after they died.

Huh, I didn't see the part of it being only after death. Well I don't really have a clue. I know that some of the over sea snails have a lime/calcium build up on their shells from being in their natural habitats. But for an aquariam snails to come up like that after death, who knows. That sort of falls under the "Who knows what they do under the gravel."

Maybe it's been chewed at, and rather than those being raised bumps you should see the rest of the shell as pitted?

They are raised bumps, not pits. The shell is about perfect.
