My crazy GF is always up my butt about the fish I keep...
I care more about them than I do her..
They are stupid, what can they do? the cant play frisbee, or snuggle up to you on the couch..

She has a cat and a dog, I tried to tell her having fish is no different that having any other pet..

She dont get it..

So..

Are your fish pets, or a hobby?

fish=pets

Fish tanks and etc=hobby

For about 6 months i had 2 tanks and only 1 fish lol. Now im up to 3 tanks with 10 fish and a bunch of shrimp.....i consider it a growth :). I'd say I'm a hobbist not a fish keeper.

I picked 4 cause i didn't agree with any of the others.

I had this discussion before when I used to keep rats. For a different reason.
The thought that keeping rats could be a hobby insulted some of them.
I didn't know what else to put the expenses under.
Career, health, educational expenses ( yeah I was in college at the time) or basic necessities...So since I kept rats for pleasure and not to make money or to fill basic needs, then it's a hobby?. I guess for some of them keeping rats meant the rats were family members now and I was objectifying them.

Feel the same way about the fish unless they are a source of income or I'm going to do something functional with them like raise them for food.
And to answer the basic question here, I see them as both.

i was looking for the get rid of the gf for more tank option.

My wife offered me that option if I bought any more tanks!

That was when I had 5 tanks.

I now have 8; 9 if you count my 4G QT...still married :)

ummm..addiction...

Hey MG, what size tanks are those?
I was thinking of a similar set up with all 20G long tanks.
