I paid $80.00 for two large clowns and all they do is hide in a cave I made for them. Your clown looks happy in his little castle.

your gravel is cool it looks like mine. you should get rid of that bag in your filter, its ammonia remover rocks right and change it with another sponge once everything gets settled.

ya, i don't need that top bag? there are 2 bag, one with white rocks, the other with black rocks, and a sponge on the bottom... should i remove the top bag and put a sponge in it's place?

The white rocks remove ammonia, while the black rocks is activated carbon providing the chemical filter. The sponge you have contains your biological filter as well as your mechanical filter, the trillions of bacteria that eat up the ammonia, nitrate and nitrite. Keeping your bag of white rocks is pretty much a waste of money. For the fact of your bacteria already removeing the ammonia from the water. I think that bag is only to help cycle a tank. I would def go with 2 sponges. In keeping 2 filters it allows you to clean each one at different times. Say do one the first of the week and the next week to the other. Doing this will allow no fluxuation of ammonia levels. Keeping your tank a healthy and stress free one!

80$ on Clown Loaches? Wowwwwwwwww! For that price I would just buy them for 8.99$ as 2 inch pups and raise them to that size.. sheesh. I didn't even know the loach was there until Dapple2 mentioned it! That's a shame, I wish fish weren't so shy and gave dwelling :)

Sorry, that was gregg604 who paid 80$ for two clowns. 2.99$ in an awesome price. I've never seen them for less than 7.99$ in Ottawa.

Glad you are happy with everything. I always love it when I get fish stuff. I am anxiously awaiting an order from Big Al's online. It's just some plant ferts and a magnet, but I am mad that it didn't come today like it was supposed to. When I order on monday, it comes tuesday and when I order tuesday, it comes friday. I ordered monday, but it didn't come.

Is this the 10 gallon tank? In the pic I think I see an Angelfish. I'm pretty new to the hobby myself, but it's my understanding that an Angelfish will outgrow a 10g pretty quickly.
If I'm mistaken, please pardon me.

Both angels and clowns will outgrow a 10...

I also posted a big message on the mono looking REALLY stressed out as well and someone deleted it.
Anyway, the mono is hanging out in the bottom front corner with a black tipped fin. This is an indicator of stress, as well as not being in a school, and in a 10g. It is also a brackish water fish, that eventually becomes a saltwater fish. You need to return it immediately. They require tank sizes of up to 100g, they are very active, schooling fish. They also reach sizes of up to 9".

How long could he keep them in there before he needs to upgrade?

Depends on several factors, but I would say no less than 6 months. The angels can grow very fast, and there is some evidence the clowns should be fast growing, but are too often kept in small tanks, and are thus stunted early on.
For a mono--immediately. These fish suffer if kept in FW for overly long, and their long term needs are incompatible with FW fish.
