Last night I saw what looked like two small anenomes on some caulurpa I put in my tank about a week ago. they have a long shaft with "tenticals" on top. They are tan color and one is about 1/2" tall the other about 1/4".
Anyone know what they might be?
I didn't see them when I put the caulurpa in the tank, but I am worried about what it is.
Thanks in advance
Grady

Sounds like aiptasia. Do you have a pic?

Yeah, sounds like aiptasia. If you can pull off the branches with the anemones, do so as soon as you can. They can spread and become a real pest.

Just make sure you pull off the branches of the calurepa. If you remove just the anenome it may spread throught your tank.

Probably aiptasia. Get rid of it, and do so promptly. At least you caught it early. Mine managed to avoid detection for the better part of five months, and now is cropping up everywhere.

I wonder if this is what I got in my tank. I called it an anemone. Is aptasia, an anemone? Mine is tan, and translucent during the day, and purple when it shrinks down to a little bulb at night. I just got on here to say that he came up missing. I was reading through the threads, read this, and began to wonder.

Never mind, I answered my own question. Just to think, I was happy to have an anenome, and it has to be a pest. This booger is missing at the moment, I do have peperment shrip, I wonder if they will eat him. According to this, I have a chance.

Liquafaction,
It sure sounds like you have aiptasia. I felt the same way, too. I was all excited at first to have an anemone in my tank, and it has to be a plague anemone! Peppermint shrimp are supposed to dine on aiptasia, so it is likely your shrimp made a meal out of the aiptasia.

Before I converted to a reef, I had some Aiptisia... I found it cool looking, so I just kept it.. Actually, I would even feed the thing.. And it had one hell of an appetite...
If you find it to be cool looking, and it doesn't bother anything else in the tank, I say, just keep it.. :)

I say, just keep it..
To Late...There were three that I saw by the time I got home last night. They are now in aiptasia Heaven...
