I've done the DIY stand thing. It looks pretty good, I'm happy I did it. But, about the same time I'm buying the new tank, I'll be buying a house, so I'll be a little too busy to build a stand. Plus, I'd probably only save like $150 by doing it myself, and let's face, the build quality of a professional is definitely worth $150.

Or, is it? Has anybody ordered a stand from Glasscages.com? The pictures online look nice. I really like that they come unstained because that part I'm good at and enjoy and I'd like to pick out the exact stain.

Just curious if the delivered product is good quality.

i have one. very sturdy, good quality, but i have two issues with them.

the first is that if you want any access holes (for plugs, canister tubes, etc.) you have to drill them yourself. not a problem if you have a drill and one of those big hole-drilling bits, but not everyone does. the second is the doors, they are lift-out panels. if you want them to be like normal doors on hinges, you have to do it yourself. again, not a big deal, just something to think about.

okay, I don't think there will be any restrictions on hinges but maybe some hinges such as the close ensuring kind.

i didn't add hinges. the easiest thing to do would probably be to tell them that you plan on putting hinges on the doors and then they can give you doors that will work better.
