Hi all ..
i built an overflow box before for my 20g tank , it works well , but the only problem i have is the pump flow rate is abit more than the overflow box rate , so i have to turn the pump off every few hours and wait abit till the sump get full again ... ( i put a timer for that ) anyway , i wanna build another overflow system for my 55g tank , i have two pumps to put in my sump(or maybe a canister , dosn t matter) , one 475gph and the other one is 185gph , and i m thinkin of buildin 2 PVC overflow system with 1.1/2" PVC pipes to make sure of enough intake for the sump , so what do u think ? i afraid i got the same problem as my previous overflow system again , is 2 overflows enough for my pumps ?
any idea will be most welcome ...

Hard to say...but you can put a ball valve on the pump output and restrict the flow a bit if it ends up being too much. I would imagine dial 1.5" overflows would be enough though.

ok , so i shouldn t worry ,
first: how do u calculate the flow ?
sec: how long my pvc pipe should be ? does it matter ?

try not to go too large, otherwise its easier for air bubbles to remain in the top of the overflow and kill the syphon. i've got a 1" pvc overflow and it handles ~500 maybe 550gph smoothly.
