Found a local reefer giving this hard coral away. A friend of mines suggested maybe i can take it because i recently upgraded to metal halides for my 55 gallon and finally finished the set up(about 70 lbs of live rock, 30 gallon sump, and live sand). Well, i ran into a financial problem and haven't got a chance to get any livestock. Also, i picked up this angel or butterfly fish(not sure) for $10 bucks. I will start adding more soft corals soon and take refuge of any out grown stock that my friend is producing in his 34 gallon nano.

Heres the coral

Your coral looks like a yellow Turbinaria -- and quite the sizeable piece.

I don't think your fish is an angel or a butterfly... It looks like a sailfin tang to me. A 55g tank is not really well suited for it if it's a sailfin tang.

It is a sailfin tang and they do get LARGE so you might consider trading it for something better suited for a 55. I am not positive on the coral but I would guess Turbinaria also.

Smh, I thought i was taking a great first step. Yeah i will have to make a call to one of my favorite LFS and see what they can do for me.

I know a few people that have gotten sailfin tangs not knowing how big they get because they are a very nice looking fish so dont beat yourself up and at least you are willing to trade him in, Sailfins can get 15 inches long and probably 12+ inches tall

Just get a bigger tank is all, no big deal :)

Is this the same as the one i have? I saw this at the academy of science earlier today

If any of you guys live in the bay area. The academy of science in SF just re-opened and they have an big exhibit replicating the Philippine reefs.
