Would 2 JDs be too much for a 55gal. It would probably be 2 males, would they fight all the time until 1 died or what? If you can't put 2 in there, could i put a tank mate in there w/ him? Like a pleco and a Leporinus? any suggestions?

I'll not put 2 males in there. Another tank mate will be good...either pleco or another cichlid.

What about a pleco. and a leporinus as tank mates....would it kill a leporinus?

My JD and some other semi-aggressive cichlids live with Gouramis, Bala Shark, Giant Danios, Pleco, and loaches. They all get a long fine. However, note that I have top, middle, and bottom swimmers. Your selection...are all bottom swimmers (Pleco and leporinus). JD likes middle and bottom space. There is a possibility your JD will try to fight for space when it gets big.

just get a JD and like something medium sized like a firemouth or sumthing and a group of giant danios.

I got 2 jacks in my 55 gal. the big one is prbly 6 inches and the other one is about 4, i hope its a female. The big one is a male, no doubt about that. Its strange cause they get along sometimes and others he runs the small one around. I need something smaller for him to chase but the other green terrors in my 30 are still small and wont be moved till they get alittle bigger. I really want to get something in the 55 that will kick his butt and calm him down. :D , any suggestions?

Uhmm...I hope you plan for an upgrade in the future.

To identify male/female JD...just have to look at the gill. Female has more blue than male on the gill.

BTW, GT isn't as aggressive as people said. They are very timid.

I did have 2 jacks in the 55 gal I got, but had to take out the smaller one and put in a green terror that was giving another one in a smaller tank ell'. The 2 jacks got along fine till I guess the big one claimed the tank. He doenst mess with the Terror at all, since he's too big and fat to catch em.
The jack I took out and put in the 30 gal is a lot less agressive even with the green terror and the zebra mhbuna that are in there with it. I know american and africans arent usaully kept together but these seem to do ok as tankmates. I got to get some "stupid fish " for the 55 gal. Maybe some really fast catfish or something , I just cant stand danios. Lol.

my green terror bullies my jack when they get face to face but the jack has plenty of caves and such to hide in the my GT cant get to.
