Just wondering if anyone has any comments about the Rena Smart filter.
Is is really a pressurized HOB? Do you notice a difference compared to other brands?

well, its supposed to be good but almost too good since those pads clog fast. also, the cost of replacement cartrdiges is kinda pricey too, especially compared to the penguin and aquaclear lines.

I own 2 of the Smartfilter 55s and eventually gutted them and added my own media to them. I got tired of dealing with the stock cartridges, though they're fairly easy to remove. Cleaning them can be a bit of a pain however.

So with the 4 sided catridges are they filled with anything or just a floss box? i assume there is zeolite or carbon right.

I have one of these filters and hated it the design is horrible those boxes you slide the 4 sided filter pads on are cheap and mine come apart all the time I finally tossed it in my huge box I collect items for my garage sales in and hopefully someone else will find it useful i sure didnt. and the cost of the filter pads are outrageous. i will stick with my tested and well loved emperor 400's.
