:thm:Hello Too All: Can someone inform me on what size chiller too use on a 80gal. reef/fish/liverock tank w/400watt MH lighting system (light is on the way). I'm looking at a current 1/10??

I'd look at a 1/5-1/4 HP. If you undersize, then depending upon what temperature your tank runs, the chiller may run constantly, driving up the running cost. If you can get a slightly oversized unit, it won't run nearly as often--not to mention you have a bit of leeway with regards to temperature. Honestly, I'd see what temps you run with all your equipment running, along with lots of fan cooling in the canopy with the halides. If you cool efficiently and vent the canopy, you may not even need a chiller.

I have the current 1/3 horse and while it works fine...it is a bit noisey. I have been around the JBJ Arctica and they are extremely quiet. If I could do it all again, I think I would go with the JBJ for the noise reduction, not to mention the size of my 1/3 is a bit of a beast and it really puts out a lot of heat while it cools so you need to have good circulation around the chiller. Chillers substantially heat up the room they're in. If at all possible you want them outside the living area. Mine's directly under the tank - under the house. Excellent way to go.
