I am interested in getting upside down catfish but I want to know more about them. How hard is it to feed them? I have herd that they hide during the day; is this true, are they nocturnal?

Hey jeannie87, I have kept upside down cats for a while. It is true, they do hide during the day.
If you ant to see them during the day, I'd suggest that you should have a dim lit tank, and they would come out when you feed the tank mates. Make sure you never net them because they have a spine on their dorsal fin and can get caught up in it. They are pretty fast even though they are upside down.
I hope I helped you in any way possible.

They need a school. Make sure you get true upside-down catfish, and not another syno.

I have 3 of them...great little fish. They're not necessarily nocturnal, but they do prowl the tank a lot more after the lights go out. I recommend getting at least 3 or 4 of them, as they like to be in groups. They will come out in the daytime to feed. Give them some bottom feeder type foods, and they will be all over them. Make sure you get Synodontis Nigriventris, a lot of the other Synos get too big to keep several in most tanks (unless its pretty large).

Even though you probably won't see them as much as your other fish, they're very cool fish to observe.

Good luck if you decide to get a few :)

Yep...should definitely be kept in shoals-just like Cories-and I have also always fed mine what I feed Corys--a good sinking pellet and some fresh veggies (ALL of my cats LOVE Zucchini):D
