Hi,
Just registered to site. I used to keep saltwater tanks in the 80's. The days of under gravel filters, canisters and dolimite. I was vey successful with these set-ups. Kids came along and tanks went by the wayside. Always wanted to begin again and recently I purchased a 220g Oceanic pre-drilled with aga sump and stand. Wow! Technology has changed! Live Rock? Never heard of it til now! Well, after much research, decided to set up my 220 as a FOWLR. At present, I have no interest in corals and invertabrates. Might down the road, but not yet.
Set up tank on 10/10 and cycle has started. Ammonia has already spiked and Nitrite reading 2.0 ppm. 75 pounds live rock mixed with 75 base. 3" sand bed seeded with 80lbs live sand.
Set up skimmer but of course no skimmate to skim right now. Wanted to say HI! Glad to be back into it.
Wayne

Welcome back to the hobby.

I too am familiar w/ dolomite, coral sand & UGFs - things are better now, if a lot more expensive. When you think you may be infected w/ the corals bug, go price Ca reactors, hundreds of watts of MH lights, ozone systems and/or high wattage UV sterilizers. That should keep corals at bay for a while.
