Wowsers! Holy muddy water batman!
After rinsing this stuff for over an hour and then putting it in the tank, it looks like I just scooped out the bottom of the creek and dropped it in the tank! :omg:
Now I know it takes time to settle and such but this is nothing like switching to sand. So...bout how long will it take this to settle in before I can use it?
The other question I have concerns water changes on this tank. Should I only do 100% once a day until it clears or can this be done more? Curious as I have seen only the mention of doing WCs once a day.
Thx
Its settles out in a day or less, alot quicker than sand in my opinion.

flourite is really good, but really has to be rinsed well. I thought I rinsed mine well until I put it in the tank and it probably looked like yours does. I had to take it out, and rinse, rinse, rinse, until it was clear. Now I never have any problems when I change water. Good luck. Also, mine was a couple of days and it never settled..........so that's why I removed it and cleansed it properly.
The trick to flourite, wash it really well, then let it dry out completely before putting it into your aquarium.

I am lazy, i put it into a new tank without rinsing and just added extra filters and rinsed out media a couple of times a day for a couple days and it cleared right up.
James- Do you have stock in the tank right now? I have done many more than one water change in a day of very large volume with no ill effects. Do what ya gotta. Best of luck with your muddy waters.

I basically take my flourite and use a heavy duty fish net to pick up a bunch, then shake it around in a tub of water until it runs clear. If its really really cloudy I find you have to drain the tank and rinse more as it covers glass with a film. I love my flourite though, once you get it clean its great stuff.

No stock...empty tank at the moment. Once the water is fairly cleared, I will move the plants from the one tank to this one. I did do a few more big water changes. Didn't appear to have much of an impact. Will just keep working at it.

we used a high pressure hose and a home made seive to wash about 2 lbs of flourite at a shot. we rinsed it twice and that helped tremendously

i stuck a ton of polyfill in my filters and rinsed it oout a couple of times a day. It captured alot of what was floating in the water column. Then i did a few big wc's with a vac.

After several WCs later...still nothing...so I broke down and drained the tank and took it outside and turned the hose on it. (I usually just put it in a large pot and use the sink). I did this for nearly an half an hour and it seemd to work pretty well. Took it back inside, removed the tube from the gravel vac and stuck it down in the substrate. Used that like a funnel to fill it up. Just a tid bit cloudy but I think the polyfill will help with that.
Will be changing the plants over this afternoon.
