big, mean, terrotorial and predatory, they have teeth. hard to find tank mates for it. gets to be very large need about 100+ gallons for one fish.
Look into MoJo's website. He has basic info you need to know.
www.aquamojo.com
Or you can try Predatorcichlid's website.

They are very aggressive. and they need big tanks. like 100+.
mojo will have all the info you want.
Jaguars are really cool fish to keep. I love my big female (yes, you can sex them with the fin trick ;) ). I have 2 females but the smaller one hasn't quite grown into her personality yet so I'll talk about my big one.
Akasha is about 13.5 inches. I got her when she was just a 1.5 inch juvie and have had her for two years now. She was really shy when I first got her but loved to play games like hide & seek and peek-a-boo. In fact, that's the entire reason I bought her. She played hide & seek with me in the store and had such an adorable look to her little face. :)
As she grew, she became quite the aggressive little minx. She rams the glass, bites it, tries to bodyslap your head, etc. She'll try to sneak up on you and seems to have a sixth sense in knowing where you are and what you're going to do next. I love her endless "po'd at the world attitude." She flares at you from across the room, even (we're talking more than ten feet here!). It's like she owns the entire living and dining room. She'll even stalk the cats. ;)
Akasha really is just a big lovey though. She's all talk. As soon as you put your hand in the tank, she'll let you pet her as much as you want.
She is my special fish. A year ago, I woke to find that she had somehow dislocated her jaw. I was so afraid she was going to starve and I'd have to put her down. But, within a month, she had learned to eat with her new mouth shape and she has been doing fine & growing bigger ever since. In the beginning, we tried to work with her in putting her mouth joint back into place. She was so patient and let us hold her and work her jaw, but whatever she did was permanent damage. She may look funny now, but I still love her.
;)
I can't wait to see how my other girlie, Pele, turns out. :D
Akasha, I keep in her own tank with a couple of small plecos but Pele is in with 2 large oscars, 5 assorted plecos & a large marbled sleeper goby. So far, her behavior has been exemplary but we shall see as she grows. ;)

NIPPY i remember when you first had that happen to her and when you went to the doctor and everything, good to know that it turned out to be ok and that u didnt have to put her down, and that she can still eat.

Here's a pic of her 1 month after her dislocation.

Awww...poor girl.
You know what she did to me last night? I set up a new frog tank on the hearth (we never use the fireplace anyway) right next to her tank and I decided to do my homework near there to watch the frog. I'm lying on the floor minding my own business when I hear a loud *thunk* and a bunch of water lands right on my head, all over my statistics book, the cat lying nearby, the floor, my homework, etc.
My only conclusion was either she was mad at me for being there and ignoring her or just mad because I was in her "territory" for too long. :D
What a silly fish. :)
I thought the female didn't have as many spots!
Don't bother putting any plants in the tank Tia..it will just tear it up!
Nippy, that's hilarious. I've gotte wet a few times from our Jag. He is so darn mean!
