Well the weather is chilly and the fish are feelin it. Even thou I have a heater in all my main tanks, my killie breeder (empty dont wory ;)) is frigid getting to 50 at night. Are there any alternative methods to heating a tank besides buying a heater? I dont mean to sound cheap but I have no funds to spend.

i was wondering the same thing earlier today....i couldn't think of any way you could do this though.

Maybe....we have an old heating pad. WAIT! Before I go on I would like to note when I tried this no fish would be in it! I could put it under it and mess with the temp control till I got it like 75-83f. What do you think?

You would spend more time and money on using hot hater from the tap than what a heater would cost to operate.

what? i didn't quite understand that...did you mean we would use more money filling the tank with warm water or we would use more money using a hot pad than a heater?

one question, why heat it if there are no fish in it??? Waste of energy if you ask me. The only way I can think of is raising your room temp.

No, no no you all misunderstand. I moved the fish out of the tank so i could test the heating pad. and I dont know wtf you mean by hot water.

lol its ok, i understood what you meant ;)

SooOooo will it work>?

Oh ok lol I thought you wanted to heat an empty tank. A heating pad under the tank could work although you would have to rig up some kind of thermostat to make sure the temp was kept constant. It is the same concept that they use in terrariums, of I remeber correctly from when I was looking at getting one.
