Hi,

I setup my 55 tank with a canister filter. It is about a month now.
Yesterday i was looking in the tank and i saw somthing that looked like a big flake. And while i watched i found some more floating around in the current...

I wondered what it was and finaly by inspecting the hoses that take water out of the tank and mostly water back into the tank from the canister filter. I saw that the inside of the hoses (they are a transparent green color) is coated by some "stuff", and this stuff is getting lose little by little making a mess in the tank.

So i wonder:
1) what is it (algea? benifical bacteria?)
2) How can i prevent it from happening

What i did was to stop the filter, and clean the hoses.
Whatever was in the hoses is now out, but i am not sure, could it also be benificial bacteria? And if i removed it will my tank cycle again ??

Anybody else have the same problem?

Hi,

The canister filter was also new.
The tank is now about cycled, zero ammonia about zero nitrite 0.1mg/L, and about 12.5mg/L nitrate.

Its probably just algae...might require periodic cleaning to keep it from coming back.

Hi,

If it is algae, then how?
because most of the hose is inside the closet, so no light. Algae need light to grow right. But The coating was also inside the hose that is iniside the closet.

Bio load is:
(all small)
1 dwarf gouramy
1 gold Gouramy
7 cories
2 barbs
1 bala shark
since a week a lot of neon tetras (50+)
