My common pleco, about 12 inches long, has taken to eating at the surface when I feed the other fish in the tank in the morning. He either floats perpendicular and sucks in flake food or he floats on his back and does this. He gets feed wafers at night and periodically he gets peas or a slice of orange (which he loves!), but he doesn't like zucchini.
Is this strange or is my pleco trying to act like the other fish?

He sounds like he's hungry. My pleco is going through a growth spurt, he eats 2 whole zucchini's a day, plus algae tabs, and he's still hungry. But last month he barely ate anything at all. Mine is about 12 inches, too.
Mine (about 15 inches) does that a lot, he loves to come to the top of the water against the glass and try and eat the ciclid pellets. He eats about anything I put in there. Sometimes I hold the food at the top of the water against the glass and he eats out of my hand, so cute
