I have a film, on the top of the water in my planted tank, this did not happen until I put co2 on the tank, and took off the surface agitation(sp). What can i do to get rid of it? I have a 55g tank being filtered by a 93g canister filter, I have the spray bar pointing towards the glass to keep the current down in the tank to make the fish happy.

skim a clean paper towel across the surface. most likely its just some oil from your hands or arms or something you might have put into the tank while adding the co2.

I have the same thing in my 10gal planted. Its started when I added DIY Co2 as well. I thought it was just yeast residue. I upgraded to a larger HOB and its still there. Its kinda gross haha =)

LOL, Do you have kids hawking lougies? I couldn't resist.

I get a mild oily type film sometimes around day seven. I don't pay it much mind 'cause it don't cause any trouble. Water Change once a week and it's all good.:)

Run an air stone at night. Or, get a timer and run it in short bursts of time throughout the day (this is what I am currently doing).

last week i had a pretty bad case of the film.. it was so bad that if you would run your finger on top you would get this starchy build up.. I moved my spray bar so that the top would not be still and problem solved.

If the paper towel trick is insufficient, play w/ stray bar location until you get at least a little circular (as in clockwise, or counterclockwise - if you're from S. of the equator) motion to the water. That may be enough to keep the film from returning. Don't let it build up or hang around too long as it probably interferes with gas exchange and could be bad for fish.
