Hi, all, I'm a newbie from Northeast Philadelphia. My dh and I plan to be busy with 2 things this weekend - watching the Phillies win, and setting up our 1st saltwater tank. We have a 55-gal we are converting from freshwater, hoping the "salty side" will inject some excitement into the hobby.
We have been shopping at Pets Plus - is anyone familiar with this local chain in the Delaware Valley area? I noticed their prices are all over the place for supplies and equipment - some are high and others are low. Does anyone have any thoughts on their fish?
Anyway, we will be doing a FOWLR. Were going to go with 2 HOT filters but the store manager and a couple of his employees talked us into going with a Pro-Clear 125 sump. I know it will probably be more beneficial, but we are having a hard time setting it up, because it seems like the included documentation was incomplete. The info I downloaded from their site is a little better, but not much. I guess since my specialty is documentation, I'm a little spoiled, and perhaps I expect too much. We're getting there, but it's slow going.
I opened the skimmer's box tonight to set it up and found a broken part - a brand, spanking new item. So now we have to wait to get that - I hope the store will exchange it. If not, we'll have to wait to order it from the manufacturer. It's a Coralife Super Skimmer, 65-gal. It seemed to get good press, and we plan to install in inside the sump if possible - it *looks like* it should fit.
I'm trying to decide on aquascaping - does anyone have any suggestions on design configurations?
Anyway, we are going to start with a peaceful community tank. Hopefully we will be able to get a number of fish with a nice variety.
I came across this site doing my research, and then found it was recommended in "Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies", so I decided to check it out at length.
So that's my story (so far). Drop by and say hello!
