I was wondering what exactly is the best substrate for kuhliloaches?
I've heard sand is supposed to be good for them to bury themselves in but i'm worried that they might scratch themselves or if my brochis might accidently eat it.
Right now i have some fine gravel but they barely bury themselves at all, just hide under the driftwood.
Any advice?

Sand is the best IMO because it doesn't scrape their bellies and it provides them with a smooth surface to lay on, not just jagged peaks that put pressure on their body. I also see them sifting through the sand for food, they stick their snout in the sand and blow it through their gills looking for more food. I have never seen them burrow underground before though. About your fish eating it, I don't think your fish will eat the sand. He might try it but then after finding out it isn't very good, he'll spit it back out.

I have some on pool sand & some on Flourite black sand, No digging in either substrate, mine prefer dense java fern & rock caves.

Pool filter sand by itself should be fine...it might encourage them to bury themselves more if thats what your trying to achieve...

Any other types of sand I should think about? If not, do they sell pool sand at pet stores?

No, in pool stores, silly.
