I've decided to go with African Lake Tananyika Cichlids. Here is what I have in mind:
*1 Altolamprologus calvus
*1 Julidochromis marlieri
*1 Neolamprologus brichardi
*1 Tropheus moorii
*3 Skunk Loaches
For filtration I have a Fluval 304, and I have many River Rocks of all sizes piled up and some driftwood peices.
Do you think this setup will work?
Should I make any changes? The fish are not bought yet.

Tropheus moorii wont work with that setup. They are strict vegetarians and they are super aggressive and very fast moving. It will drive the others crazy. Theyre best kept in groups of at least 6(12+ being best).

its a 46 gallon bowfront
I was thinking of doing a Calvus community with a syno. catfish, since they do best in groups, how many would you recommend?

that could work expept for the tropheus. in mine right now i have a julie and a brichardi and frontosa and its cool. yeah i know the frontosa needs a huge tank, but it will take a while.
im about to get 3 calvus and 2 more julies for my 50
As long as you kept it to single specimines that would work with the leluepi not the tropheus. Calvus don't necessarily do better in a group but they do better in a trio because males are rough on the females.

I picked up a 2 calvus, 1 compreccicept (spelling?), and 5 juliochromis mareli (will be a pair once I find a compatible mates, I 'll take the other 3 back).
I'm gona pick up a syno. eupterus today.
These fish are so cool, they seem like they are always looking for food around the tank.

you cant mix comps with calvus, they will crossbreed wihtout a second thought. you can only keep either calvus or comp in 1 tank, and only 1 species of each.
Krib's right about interbreeding. You may have a problem if the marleri pair up so you may not want to add any more cichlids. I have a breeding pair of J. marleri and they can be a bit brutal on tank mates.
