On Wednesday I found one of my beautiful comets dead in my pond. I was sad but not too terribly concerned because he had always been a runt and never developed properly so I thought his disabilities had caught up with him as he looked perfect (for him) when I found him. The next day another died! I tested the water and the ammonia was elevated so I started doing water changes, a 50 percent water change to start and the next day did another 50 percent water change which brought the ammonia level down and I also added prime with the water change. Then this morning the last two were dead! I tested the water and ammonia was 0 nitrites was 0 and the nitrates didn't even register. What would cause that? Did I do the wrong thing with changing the water? It isn't cold here yet. They looked perfect, I am so sad.

I'm so very sorry.... :-(
I fought hard to save a goldfish.... and then a guppy with bloat...
Isn't it amazing how much we can grieve over such small little creatures.... I'm sorry for your loss.....

i haven't owned a pond, so i don't really know, but any chance of contaminants having gotten in to the pond?

That is what I think happened. I don't know how though. I am hoping that it wasn't an act of meaness from someone who lives around me. The other ponds are fine though. It is pretty confusing. I am going to completely drain the pond and just use it for plants now.

AWWW I AM SADDEND BY YOUR POST. COULD IT HAVE BEEN A VIRAL INFECTION THAT SWEPT THROUGH YOUR POND? MAYBE A VIRUS WEAKENED THE FISH THUS MAKING IT EASIER FOR THEM TO DIE FROM AMMONIA OR HIGH NITRATES:(

EITHER WAY I KNOW LOSING FISH HURTS ONLY ANOTHER FISH PERSON UNDERSTAND THAT KIND OF PAIN - WE DO OUR BEST TO RAISE THEM AND SOMETIMES THEY DIE AND WE DO NOT KNOW WHY:(

When you did your water changes did you add Prime or some other water treatment or did you just add straight tap water?
