Hey all,

Sorry if this isn't the right spot to ask, but I'm wondering where to buy aquatic plants in the NYC area? The Petland Discount near me has a decent array of fish but is very lacking in the botanicals area. Any guidance would be very appreciated!

where in nyc are you?
in the city theres Pacific aquariums and New World which sell plants regularly. But its still best to come up with a plant list and seek them here on the boards.. You will get it for cheaper/healthier and bigger quantity

I second pacific and new world, and would like to throw in the one on mott street and the 2 in brooklyn china town.. but I forget their names.

I've never been to Pacific but I started off getting my plants from New World Aquariums in the city and Fish World waaay out there in Queens but it will be a little pricey and not a lot to choose from except for Fish world where there was a huge selection of pants tanks and fish. I agree with Bk in just getting your list together and look for them on this forum. A lot of people here have lots of plants for sale. I've purchased several of them from people on this forum and have had no problems whatsoever. And i beleive Bk has his plants on steriods and he's growing em like crazy on his new C02 setup eh BK?

Pacific at times has better deals on plants and they carry plants that New World doesnt.. like riccia, glosso, HC. Though careful both stores also carry some non aquatic plants.

New world is pretty good and the last time I was there, I got some pretty decent quality plants. Planning a trip up there this sunday, just to browse, if anyone wants to come. Just got back from a trip to SF and went to Aquarium Forest, ADA's shop. AMAZING. I was going crazy in there, the quality of plants and fish is like none other!

Pacific and New World do have the best selections in the city, the downside being that both stores can charge extremely high prices at times.

Petco in Union Square and Royal Aqua in Brooklyn (probably one of the stores mellow was referring to) can also have a good stock of plants at times, but I've found them to be really hit-or-miss.

another store in Brooklyn called Brooklyn Zoo and Aquariums. Here its also hit or miss. But you can always find swords, crypts, moss here. As well as pellia. On the good days you can get rotalas, cabomba, alternanthera and other goodies.

I think Mellow was referring to Win Tropical Aquarium on Mott. Theres also a store on the corner there, but they never have plants. Pacific has to get my vote as well, since the staff there is super friendly, and they have that gorgeous planted tank in the front. Gotta love New World for the convenience and excellent stock, that is if you have the wallet for it. TBH I've nearly choked over some of their prices before.
