They are in process of spawning or about too. My female has been making a nest all day moving gravel around. Male helps once in a while. She is fat and her color looks great. And I'm now seeing what I think is an egg tube on her.

No eggs can be seen at this time so I guess it'll be getting close.

I did have a dither in there. I was hoping that it would turn the males attention on itself and not the female after spawning. But they both decided to beat it up before spawning. The crazy thing would not hide in any of the caves I set up or the floating plants. So I moved it out.

My question is for all of you. Is which parent is the best to stay with the fry? Just in case my male attacks my female. Which should be removed?

Thanks.

personally i could not get my convicts to stop making babies

SO PLEASE STOP THE CONVICT MADNESS

just kidding i never had an issue with either of the parents going after the babies but everybody else in the tank was dead meat including their last brood

congrats that your fish are about to make babies show some pics

This will be their 2 spawn. The 1st one was at the LFS. They was kind enough to hold the pair for me until the fry where big enough.

They where in a cichlid tank until a week ago. I moved them when I noticed the female getting fat and colorful.

I'll get pics soon. Out of batteries for my camera, I'll be out tomorrow so I'll get a pack. I'm hoping they'll spawn before I go to bed. I want to watch. Just my luck they'll do it when I'm not around.

I told my husband what they are doing and he asked, "Does this mean another tank?" I said yes, just because you can never have too many. lol

Any suggestions for fry food? I have micro worms since I have guppies and platies fry already. And powder and liquid food. Any other food I should consider for them?

Congrats. My young cons have spawned a couple of times, but they're still working on getting all the timing right.
As far as food--Hikari makes a great fry food, "Little Bites," they sell it in a small flattish pouch. My Malawi fry thrived on it. Java moss can encourage artemesia growth--microorganisms that are fairly nutritious, but it takes a few days to cultivate. Some folks breed shrimp brine, but they aren't really chock full of good stuff, more like potato chips. I'd go for the Little Bites, then as they grow move up to crushed flakes. Good luck!!
(You can always feed the "too manys" to your big ciclids if they'll eat them)
