I have a 55 g. tank of 16 angels that I have raised from pea size..a few are just now getting to be breeding sized. I have one that has definately staked out a spot..cleaning it and chasing the others away like crazy..but no mate, yet..is this the way it's normally done? Which sex claims the spot? Thanks, Donna

I dont think Ive ever seen this question asked before. To make an educated guess, Im going to say the female. Reason being, she knows when she is ready to lay the eggs.

Actually It is mixed. the last spawn the male found the spawn site the female the place to hide the wigglers.

You will find that if one has picked a spot to spawn and is chasing the others away there is a pair but very young and inexperienced so the mate will show up when the spawn starts. By the 4th spawn they should have it right and you will get fry.

I can't remember who chose the site when my gold angels spawned. I'll hazard a guess it was the male and it was a filter intake pipe they chose.:screwy:

Interesting question. There are many species-especially birds, where the males chose and prepare the nesting area. So I would perhaps guess that it is the male, but it is simply a guess. I wonder how it works with angels?
