hello, great to be here. I recently purchased a used wet dry filter. do i have to change the bio balls? guy told me it hasn't been used much

You shouldn't have to change the balls as far as I know. I had a tank down for a while and just used the same balls before. Maybe give them a good soaking in a bucket and swoosh them around a bunch to get rid of anything stuck to them.
