New Driftwoods

Hi all ...
i colect these beautiful driftwoods from a grapevine farm . i wash ' m , cleaned them and boil them for bout 10 minz , and put them infront of the sun for 2 days , and now i put them in my 55g empty tank ,
the water as u see is still yellow , is it normal ? or i should boil them more ?
and how long it usually take them to drown ?

and one thing else somebody told me i should replace driftwoods every one year ... is that right ?
i think it s too much if i use all of them in my tank there will be no much room left for swimin ... so any idea how to decorate them s most well come :)
 
Nice looking wood. The wood releases tannins into the water which is causing the yellowing of your water. The tannins in the water won't hurt anything. Weigh down the wood with some rocks and after a while (when it is fully water logged) it should stay submerged. Some types of wood will never submerge. I have never used grape wood so I'm not 100% sure how it will be in the water. You should not have to change the wood every year.
 
thnx for reply :) ... i already have (had) grape wood in my tank :) so it will submerge , and i already weigh down the wood with some bottles of water :) thnx ...
any idea with decoration ?
 
Yeah. Grapewood is gorgeous stuff, but be prepared to have it disappear within a few years of use. I had branches that didn't even make it to two years, but they were placed in a tank with a panaque.
 
another nay here... as pretty and ornamented gravevine wood can be, it can be disastrous in the tank.... I would rather not use it and get something like mopani or malaysian..... but it's up to you. As mentioned, you will need to watch your parameters closely and be prepared for when these vine woods need to be replaced.
