So, one day last year I was sitting in my apartment at college and I thought "I want an aquarium..." My girlfiend thought it was the most random thing ever, but I started looking up stuff online and reading books, magazines, etc. After about a month a picked up my 29 Gallon bowfront "kit" as my first aquarium.

It was a kit that came with Power Filter 30 HOB and a 100W Heater, some flake food, a single strip 24" Florescent fixture and a hinged glass hood. I got the pea gravel substrate and the "big resin rock" to go inside...and a terra cotta pot :)

After a few weeks I got some plants..the corkscrew grass quickly melted away :headshake2:.

I put it on the desk in my apartment and added a blue background... I had no idea how ADDICTED:devil: I would become!!

This Summer (6/08) I got some grasses to go in there... Mondo Grass (whatta newb!) :headshake2: was worthless in the aquarium.

I moved this aquarium to my house (~3 hours away). Then I got some more plants... Wisteria (Hygro. Difformis).

More to come...:headbang2:

So, here is the start of the Wisteria in the 29G...

The tank was moved again to my new apartment back at college in August 2008. And I also got a Nikon D60 DSLR camera just before this, so the pictures will be way better from here on.

One of the Gouramis I have...and I chipped the rock during the move.

I also added a Cryptocoryne Lutea

Here is one of the White-Finned Rosy Tetras that has been there from the start.

I changed the background around to the black side! I looks a million times better... My camera charger is messed up, so no pictures for a few days but, hopefully soon!! My album shows all of the fish we have and our other tank (90G).

Oh, I just noticed the C. Lutea, just be aware that in some conditions, it could turn green/bronze, making it difficult to tell between C. Lutea and C Wendtii v. Bronze.

Ok, so here's the latest picture of my 29G! I changed the background to the black, because IMO it looks a millions times better than blue....

The plants are growing great and I have been sending plants out to my 90G about once a week.:headbang2:

I have a little bit of a diatom problem on the C. Lutea in front. It may be bc of too much light on it or the wrong color temp.

I got some Rotala, H. Polysperma, Frogbit, African Fern, Needle Leaf Fern, Val. Nana and Flame Moss samples from Bk828 to add to the tank in the next day or two! I'll post pictures as soon as a get them planted!

NEW PICTURE!

This is the 29 Gallon as of today... I got the Rotala, H. Polysperma, Flame Moss, and Frogbit about a month ago from Bk828. The Polysperma grows EXTREMELY fast, the Rotala is very nicely colored, and the Flame is setting up quickly! I finally found some Flourich Excel and the tank has improved a lot since adding it.

The one stem of Hygro. Polysperma in the front was placed in my 90 Gallon for only one day and started to get droopy... I am still sorting that tank out.

Very impressive tank(especially the last picture), how are your plants growing so well, I've never had luck in the few instances I've tried them. What's the lighting, and any special substrate under that gravel?

Do your fish get lost in that jungle? :D Very nice tank!

Thanks! I have some Danio fry survive sometimes because the hide in jungle long enough to not get eaten. I have 60W of 6500K and 4100K lights over it with about an inch of pea gravel for the substrate. I add Excel and Flourish about twice a week.

I have some Danio fry trying to make it now...

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=768&pictureid=6121

Some of them haven't hatched yet (curled up ones)...

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=768&pictureid=6120

I have sucked some of them out with a baster, so hopefully they will survive. I have no clue what to feed them.
Those pebbles are tiny and the fry make them look like boulders!

Hikari makes a pretty good fry food, First Bites. Also, you can grind up whatever you're feeding your fish now and feed them that.

If you're adventurous, you can hatch BBS or find some other suitable live food that your fry can take.

Good luck!

I just sold some of my trimmings! If anyone needs any fast growers (Hygro. Polysperma, or Wisteria), Flame Moss, or Rotala...just PM me. The water was at the rim before I removed all the plants! Thats a pretty large volume to be filled by plant material!

what's the main plant in there? The wysteria? I've been looking to get some pretty thick ground cover, and I'm not sure what to use.

IsaacMTSU

Thanks Bk! Yeah, the wisteria is the main plant, i just keep it trimmed down and that makes it spread across instead of upward. It's hard to kill and grows fast!
