View Full Version : Adult size of Gold Nugget Pleco?

Saw a gold nugget pleco at the pet store yesterday. I was wondering what the adult size of these are. I read 6 inches on planet catfish but would like to get some more opinons. I do not want a pleco that will get over 6 inches or so. The clerk at the store ( who I don't really trust) said they get huge. I don't want a tank buster in my 55.

Catfish planet is usually accurate--the thing to keep in mind is the accuracy of the fish identification.
I'm moving this to Bottom Dwellers.

Read the planetcatfish.com catfish of the month Dec 2000. Its about the goldnugget.
There are 4 species commonly reffered to as goldnuggets L177,L81,L85,L18. The L177,L18 and L85 get to be around 12-14" and the L 81 supposedly gets about 7-8".
So depending on which L-number you LFS you may or may not want to get it.

The store I saw the Gold Nuggets in are selling them for $30. I saw them online for 20something but then you have to pay shipping and handling which usually isnt cheap for fish.
Hi, they max out around 5-7".

You can't jsut say that untill you know the species of goldnugget he is talking about.
I saw some goldnuggets at my LFS going for 50$
Sorry, I was assuming its L177 because I see them all the time..
