I have been reading alot here on AC that lots of you keep urchins in your tnaks. I was wondering...are urchins a food source for puffers? Right now I have a porqupine puffer and an Sailfin Bleenie. I have a large hair algea that an urchin would love to dine on but don't want the urchin to become the dinner.;)

An urchin will likely be safe from the puffer, if you add it at night. We have hitch hikers in our FO tank, with a lion, a trigger, an eel, and a mandarin dragonette. They've never been molested, but only come out at night. There are a few fish that know how to tip urhins over to eat them from the bottom, and the pencil urchins likely would not be safe, but I'd say you'd be okay with a spiny one.

I have a pencil urchin that was in the tank with a small trigger, and they were just fine together. As long as the puffer isn't too much bigger then the urchin I wouldn't think it will be a problem.

Right now my puffer is about 5-6" long. He hasn't attacted any of my fish or inverts. Though he did make a meal of my only TP Clown while I was on vacation.
