Fasting my Cichlids

Are there any benefits to fasting my cichlids for a day?

i fast my cichlids for 1 day a week, jsut so that they can have a chance to process the food in thie system and so that the ammonia is lower bkuz of not as much fish waste in the tank. also this gives them a chance to eat left over food in the tank if any, and they get hungry so i can fed them a variety of foods.

The main advantages, as far as I see them: lean fish seem to live longer and develop fewer health problems; water doesn't need to be changed quite so often; you spend less on food; and hungrier fish may be more likely to try new foods.

PS I regularly fast my cichlids a couple days a week, usually not back to back days.
