Hi Friends !

For the last few days, my Fronts are constantly scratching their mouth (the area around the mouth) at the Gravel, Rocks and other Decorations - Is this a disease ? A serious one ? How do cure or rectify it ?

Will a preventive cure work here ? I thought I use the Ridall General Aid or Ridall Whitespot medicine as a prevention ?

Kindly help and guide me...
Thanks !
Kush

Most likely ordinary behaviour - they frequently dig in substrate etc.

Is it just sifting through the gravel ? or is sort of scratching themselves off stuff ? Is there any sign of physical injury ? Can you post a picture ?

Can you test with a liquid drop test kit for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and post results.

Don't put any medication in yet - it may not be necessary.

Hi there !

Thanks for caring and for the reply... I think its surely something like a discomfort because they scratch most often on the rocks and decor etc than the gravel...

I dont have a test kit but i'm trying to get one asap...

Kindly advice...

Is there any sign of injury/illness on or near their mouths ?

Sounds like something is irritating them. As far as I recall this is an uncycled tank. Until proven otherwise (test kit) there is a fair chance you have ammonia or nitrite present in it. Do a large water change - 80%.

I can't reccomend either treatment you mention, or any other medication until you can test for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate. You shouldn't medicate unless you know for sure the disease and the right treatment for the disease.

come on kush did you feed them chicken livers like you were asking before, so this problem started when you added the yellow labs right, what does it look like around their mouths is it a bloody type wound or do they have a type of white fluffy fungus around their mouths, is there white spots on the fish, coler said it true do not medicate before you know what it is you may kill your fish due to unknown reasons or incorrect medications the only thing you can do at this moment is to do a water change like coler stated and maybe add some aquarium salt at the rate of 1 TBL SPOON per 5gal of water if no access to aquarium salt because of lack of pet supply stores i would use the non-iodized salt intended for human consumption usually is the same stuff as aquarium salt just not in a bulky chunk style, wow you really need to buy a good liquid test kit in the range of PH, HARDNESS, NITRITE, NITRATE and AMMONIA if not available i would go on-line and buy those, API is a reliable test kit, but i would do this quickly aye, good luck tell us more so we can help you..

Are hyou sure they arent "picking" at the tank deco? This is there normal behavior. If there are no outward signs of disease such as lesions, spots, not eating, acting depresses, I woiuld not be all that concerned. If the fish were small when you got them and are now maturing, this would explain why you have started to notice there behavior more.

Hi there !

No, I didnt feed them the chicken Liver atall ! I threw the stuff as soon as I was adviced not to use it... There are no physical visible marks or signs at all, they just swim and occasionally rub the region near their mouth against rocks..

Yes, I badly need a test kit and I hope to get one very soon... I'l keep you guys updated - thank you so much for all the careand kindness, Friends - I'm truly grateful :)

Thanks a lot !

cool kush i was just checking with the chicken liver deal, hehehe, so there isnt any visible marks and or signs of disease than i would keep an eye on them by checking their mouths everyday and i would say most likely water perimeters are out of wack due to flashing against objects africans are notorious for doing this flashing due to incorrect water perimeters but dont get this confused with ordinary occasional rubbing against a rock or object every now and then, if they are doing this alot than the water is a foul, i would do a quick water change asap to see if this helps and when you get those test kits check those perimeters and adjust to the correct perimeters, if you would have seen a wound, cottonlike fungus or white spots than i would say try a med but this is not the case, good luck..
